Hey guys, Ive just insalled the newest DivX codecs on my system (for the first time) and i was wondering if anyone has tried encoding their films in DivX?
What sort of quality settings did you go for, etc?
Might also be an idea for fitting on more films to the Exposure Shorts CD...

I've used DivX to view a web-based trailer, and it was a nightmare. I had to:
download the trailer
download the codec
bugger about a bit
download another part of the codec
kick the base
buy a new base
etc...
The quality of the trailer was good in the end, but bear in mind that some people won't be able(or buggered) to set up their PC to view it.
If you can use MPEG, it might be a little bigger, but everyone(and his dog) will be able to view it straight away.
Cheers
Paul

DivX is a hacked Micro$oft codec which in turn is an 'embraced and extended' MPEG-4 codec.
DivX is reasonable given low bitrates (better than Sorenson IMHO) and is universal (Mac/Windows/Linux/BeOS etc)
BUT
it is still quite a mission to set it up to encode on some systems.
MPEG1 & 2 can also be played back on most modern standalone DVD players (VCD/SVCD/DVD etc ..) which opens the market up beyond just the few million on the internet and also ensures that you will still be able to play that content in 10 years time, probably 100 years time, since it is governed by the ISO standards body thing.
so MPEG1 is good and safe, DivX is good but shady
Any how, unless Andy gets a few more concrete submissions, finding space for MPEG1 on the CD will NOT be a problem!!
So submit! submit! submit!
